Colour Selections

Andrew & I have spent quite a lot of time trying to decide on colours. We both started off with different ideas, and Andrew was having a difficult time trying to visualise what the end result would look like.

We wanted a fairly neutral palette, and I spent hours browsing the internet in search of colour schemes that we both really liked, in the hope of replicating them somewhat. It really helped Andrew see what an overall colour palatte would look like.

The kitchen & bathrooms are the items that we focused on before anything else. We have a candy apple red Kitchenaid that we received as an engagement present, and we wanted that to be the standout feature in our kitchen.

Initially I wanted a kitchen with Caesarstone White  Shimmer benchtop. Andrew didn't want white, because it reminded him of the white benchtop at his work. We then settled on a grey benchtop, but I was still able allowed to get the White Shimmer counter top on the vanities in the bathroom & ensuite. I wanted lighter cupboards in the bathroom and Andrew wanted darker, so I found some pictures of different bathrooms online, and we settled on a darker cabinet colour that we both liked.

Coral has advised us that our internal doors, architraves & skirting will be painted in Dulux water-based gloss. They have provided a warning that this paint type may turn yellow if we select a white paint.

After reading this in our colour schedule, we asked our friend - who also built with Coral - to confirm with us the problems he had with his paint (I remember he had problems, but couldn't remember exactly what the issue was) and it turned out that all of his white gloss paint had turned yellow. We then went back to the display home and checked out their paint. We checked the cavity sliders - and they were noticeably yellow. It seems that if the paint doesn't get a lot of light, the yellowing may be worse.
Our friend chose Dulux White on White and the display we looked at had Dulux Lexicon.

Knowing this made our paint selections a little more difficult because we didn't want to go the "paint everything the same colour" route, and we like the look of a lighter skirting/architrave. We just hope that the colour we have chosen isn't too "white".
