Floor Plans

We bought our block of land in February 2011, and were planning to start building on it mid-way through 2012. A spanner was thrown in the works when my wonderful boyfriend decided to upgrade his status from boyfriend to Fiance in September 2011. The wedding subsequently took up all of our time and finances in 2012, and so here we are, finally building our home in 2013.

We chose Coral Homes by chance. All of the Coral display homes we had been into looked old and dated, so we immediately crossed them off our list. It wasn't until Andrew and I were having breakfast at McDonald's and reading the morning paper, that an ad for Coral Homes caught our attention. The floorplan we saw was for the Marcoola. We were excited. It looked modern, had a really good layout and we couldn't wait to go home and check it out on Coral's website.

It was on our computer, that morning, when we found the Casuarina 30. Even better, we discovered that a display was opening up at Chisolm and the Casuarina was one of the houses on display!

We made a couple of structural changes, as we wanted to spend more of our dollars doing/changing things that couldn't be done after it was built. We extended bedrooms 3 & 4 by one meter. The one thing that almost turned us off was the size of the bedrooms. I thought they may have been a bit too small at 3x3m, especially for future-proofing/resale if the situation ever arose. Luckily Andrew agreed, and those bedrooms are now 3x4m.

Another extension that we would've loved to have was a third garage. I have a dog trailer (for show dogs - not for towing behind a truck). Unfortunately our block wasn't wide enough to include it, so we have decided to extend the garage 1 meter towards the front of the block for a little extra storage/room for a workbench, and we'll probably put a small carport off to the side of the garage to store the trailer. An added bonus of extending the garage meant, that for only a couple hundred dollars more, we could also extend the study to be in line with the garage (something about altering the roof-line - the design was too complicated if the roof had to step back in for the shorter study).

Our other structural changes made were installing a floor waste in the laundry - as it wasn't included in the base price, and I have had the unfortunate experience of having a washing machine flood all over the floor on several occasions. We made the slab to the alfresco extend to the eaves, providing a visually larger space; and we also removed/added windows to home theatre and garage; changed the window in the master to a sliding door and installed a stacker door to the alfresco.

  1. Like what you did with the bedrooms, wish we had enough space on our lot to have done that... if its not too late you may want to consider flipping the Laundry, that way you wont have the wash machine behind your bed head, and the store cupboard gives added sound insulation
